Member Spotlight: Ashutosh Jaiswal

This week, we’re excited to feature Ashutosh Jaiswal as our SoCreate Spotlight. He is a talented writer whose journey began on the stage and has since transitioned to screenwriting. With over 30 stage plays under his belt as a writer, actor, and director, Ashutosh is now channeling his storytelling skills into filmmaking. Join us as we look into his creative process, challenges, and aspirations in screenwriting.

Some writers find their calling early, and for Ashutosh, that journey began at just 12 years old. With a deep passion for storytelling, he spent years writing, acting in, and directing over 30 stage plays before deciding to transition to screenwriting.

Currently, Ashutosh is working on a short film tackling a highly sensitive social issue. While details remain under wraps, his dedication to impactful storytelling is evident.

His favorite story? One that blends politics and love in a uniquely intertwined way. “The first half of my favorite story is politics in a love triangle, and the second half is a love triangle in politics.”

Ashutosh has a disciplined yet flexible approach to writing. He ensures he writes at least four hours a day but never in long stretches; each session is never more than 30 minutes. His process is structured, relying on beat boards and index cards to shape his narratives. And when writer’s block strikes, he takes a long walk to clear his mind and let inspiration flow.

Ashutosh appreciates the unique experience that SoCreate offers, describing it as “a totally different user experience.” When asked about advice for other screenwriters looking to connect with a platform or community like SoCreate, he keeps it simple: “Open up to the world.”

His best advice for aspiring screenwriters is straightforward yet powerful: “Write daily.”

Even with his extensive experience, Ashutosh admits that dialogue has been his biggest challenge. “Still fine-tuning it,” he says, proving that even the most seasoned writers continue to evolve. His smooth transition from stage to screen is a milestone he is particularly proud of, and he’s eager to take the next step, making and directing films himself.

Rather than focusing on genre, he is fascinated by human psychology. “I focus on human psychology to create characters and stories as I believe that every human action/reaction and every story and genre boils down to psychology—whether crime or love story or anything,” he shares.

From his roots in Delhi, India, to his journey from stage to screen, Ashutosh’s story is one of passion, persistence, and an ever-evolving love for storytelling. As he continues to push boundaries, there’s no doubt his work will leave a lasting impact.
