The SoCreate 2018 Oscars Challenge

And…cut! That’s a wrap on the 2018 Oscar season! The winners of the 90th annual Academy Awards were named last Sunday evening (March 4). For the full list of winners, check out the official Oscars website here! However, there is ONE winner that was not included in this official list, and that is the winner of our internal SoCreate 2018 Oscars Challenge!

Every year during Oscar season, our office puts on its own Oscars Challenge where the SoCreate team competes for the chance to take home The Couto (our annual award given to the person that predicts the highest number of Oscar winners) and a cash prize of $260!

On the Thursday before Oscar Sunday, our team gathered in the SoCreate conference room for a surprise meeting to fill out our ballots. (The "surprise" element of the competition has been added in recent years to prevent those sneaky SoCreate team members from looking up official prediction lists before voting. 😉)

During the meeting, every team member filled out their ballot, predicting a winner for each of the 24 categories.

The following 3 days were filled with anticipation as we all waited for the results of both the Oscars AND the SoCreate 2018 Oscars Challenge.

The Results Are In. And The Couto Goes To...

SoCreate 2018 Oscars challenge Justin and Sam winner

...this year's reigning champion, our Media Production Specialist, Sam Solis Ramirez! Sam came in first place with 15 correct guesses out of 24. Nice job, Sam! His passion for film-making gave him the extra edge he needed to rise to the top and bring home the prize.

In a close second place, with 14 correct guesses, was our Founder and CEO, Justin Couto. So close, yet so far--it was a sad moment for Justin, indeed, as he handed over The Couto and cash to Sam.

The Scorecard

Check out how the rest of our SoCreate team did with their predictions:

Now that the excitement from our 2018 Oscars Challenge has settled, we can start preparing for next year's competition! With the Summer 2018 Box Office already predicted to reverse the slumps of 2017's summer, we will all be on watch (no pun intended) for any and all potential 2019 Oscar competitors.

May the Oscar odds be ever in your favor!

SoCreate End Of Summer Trip 2017

Where has the summer gone? Although the end of summer may mean the end of warm nights or weekend BBQs, it also means time for our annual company End of Summer Fun Trip! Last week, our SoCreate team hit the road and headed down to Southern California for a very full, but very fun two-day adventure. The End of Summer Trip is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other outside of work and have some fun away from the office. Day 1 (Sunday, September 10) started bright and early with a 7am scheduled departure time from our San Luis Obispo office in order to beat L.A. traffic...

SoCreate Movie Day - Surprise Trip To See Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Last Friday started out like any normal day here at SoCreate. Our team came in that morning, some with coffee in hand, and headed to their desks to get to work on our SoCreate platform. The first few hours passed by as they usually do. At 10am, our team headed to the conference room for our daily stand-up meeting where we share what we've been working on over the last day and our progress on projects. At the end of our stand-up meeting, our CEO, Justin Couto, announced that this was no regular Friday--instead of our normal daily routine, we were hitting the movies to see the premier of the...
