This week, we are excited to spotlight SoCreate member, Réjean Auger!
For Réjean Auger, the journey to becoming a screenwriter began long before he ever put pen to paper. "I was born on the south shore of Montreal and spent my childhood and youth in the big city," he shares. "At 7 years old, I dreamed of being a writer and writing film scripts. I was a dreamer, I loved archaeology, ancient civilizations, and knights. I loved telling incredible stories." Those dreams have evolved into a lifelong passion for storytelling, spanning books, fantasy novels, and screenwriting.
Réjean’s storytelling journey has taken many forms, but one thing remains constant: his love for creating worlds. "Since 2010, I have been writing books, fantasy novels, detective novels, etc. I have always been a movie lover," he says. But with the surge of authors in recent years, Réjean found himself returning to his childhood dream, writing for film.
Currently, Réjean is working on a fantasy detective TV series, a project that he approaches with great care. "I edited the story, then dissected it, to see each scene in my head, imagining the characters' natural reactions," he explains. His meticulous process ensures each scene is vivid and true to his vision.
Réjean is also exploring the possibilities of SoCreate, a platform he is discovering at his own pace. "I've recently been working with SoCreate and I'm getting more and more excited. I'm discovering it at my own pace, and I like the support," he shares. Though still familiarizing himself with the software, he appreciates the experience: "The more I advance, the more I appreciate it and the more comfortable I feel."
Unlike many writers, Réjean has never faced writer's block. "Since I started writing my first novel, I haven't known what a block is," he says. For him, the challenge has always been time, not inspiration. His writing process is dynamic and immersive. "When I focus on a story, I put myself in the characters' shoes and let myself be guided. I go to bed thinking about how I trigger the beginning of the story and let myself be guided," he describes.
But Réjean’s journey hasn’t always been smooth. "The first criticism is often misunderstood. You think your first draft is your complete novel," he recalls. Over time, he learned that the first draft is just the beginning and understanding that was a turning point. "That's where I discovered my signature."
When asked about his ultimate goal, Réjean’s answer is clear: "To see my result on the screen." It is a dream he has held onto since childhood, and now, with his fantasy detective series in the works, he is closer than ever.
With a lifetime of adventures, some challenging, some inspiring, Réjean’s stories are rich with authenticity. "I've had quite a few adventures, not always rosy… but all my experiences, good or bad, help me to personify my characters better," he says.
Réjean proves that childhood dreams can become a reality with persistence, passion, and a love for storytelling.
Thank you, Réjean, for sharing your incredible journey with us!
